Bell Fruit: My Favorite Fruit

wax_apple2Bell fruit 蓮霧 (syzygium samarangense) is my favorite fruit in the whole wide world. Really. I lived in the US and in Taiwan and I prefer the fruits in Taiwan better. Like oranges are sweeter and juicier in Taiwan than in the US.

Bell fruit, also known as a wax apple and a love apple, is amazingly juicy like a watermelon but not overly sweet. It’s shaped like a bell. The best way to eat it is whole, just core the center like you could an apple. The center is stringy like a web or cotton candy; the flesh near the core is like a cushion.

Pink on the outside and white on the inside, the flesh is like biting into an apple with the juiciness of a watermelon. It’s delicious! I hope they start selling bell fruit here.
